In this post i will explain you the duties and responsibilities of a Safety Officer.
- Duties of a safety officer may vary company to company, organization to organization and sector to sector. But they have one thing common-ensuring the safety of everyone in the workplace.
- Safety officer verifies that everyone on the workplace is following safe work practices and doing their job safely.
- Safety officer responsible for monitoring and assessing hazardous and unsafe situations.
- provide guidance to the project team on HSE and confirm site fulfils industry, local, state and federal guidelines and regulations.
- Ensure that all the work is performed in accordance with the approved procedure and good practices.
- Inspect the site/workplace to find the hazard-risk and take preventive actions.
- Ensure that all the activity complies with relevant safety rules, regulations and guidelines of local, state and federal authorities.
- Correct unsafe act or condition through safely with the regular line of authority.
- Conduct safety induction, tool box talks and training.
- Maintain safety inspection, report and correspondence.
- Inspect the facilities, equipment and machinery in order to identify the hazard-risk and take preventive actions.
- Serve as primary contact for site injury, incident notification, investigation and reporting.
- Support HSE inspections, Audits.
- Carry out PTW monitoring and review.
- Verifies that all the tools and equipment are adequate and safe to use.
- Review MSRA and enforce preventive measures.
- Carries out drill and exercises on how to manage emergency situations.
- Support development of OHS policies and programs.
- Supervise the safe handling, storage & disposal of hazardous materials.
- Review safety plan for safety implications.
- Advise and instruct on the various safety related issues.
- Ensure preparation and implementation of site safety plan.
- Safety officer is a part of project safety council and lead all efforts to enhance safety.
- Verifies that injury logs and reports are completed.
- Conduct ongoing review of operations and processes to identify potential hazards, risks and control measures that should be implemented to reduce these risks, including all costs involved in implementing such measures.
- Set up and supervising temporary work areas.
- Ensure that health, safety, and environmental policies are followed.
- Review and approve subcontractor's RISK ASSESSMENT.
